Saint Paraskeve of Rome was a 2nd-century virgin martyr, renowned for her wisdom, healing miracles, and fearless faith in Christ. Born to devout Christian parents in Rome, she was named Paraskeve (meaning "Preparation" in Greek) because she was born on a Friday, the day of Christ’s Passion.

After her parents died, she gave away her inheritance and dedicated her life to Christ, becoming a preacher and healer. She traveled, spreading the Gospel and converting many, which drew the attention of Roman authorities. Arrested under Emperor Antoninus Pius, she refused to renounce her faith and was subjected to cruel tortures, including being thrown into boiling tar and oil but emerged unharmed. This miracle led even the emperor to briefly acknowledge the power of Christ.

Later, under other rulers, she continued to be tortured and finally beheaded for her unwavering confession of faith. She became known especially as a healer of the blind and a protector against spiritual and physical affliction.

Her feast day is celebrated on July 26, and she remains a beloved saint, especially among Orthodox Christians, as a powerful intercessor and model of courage, purity, and mercy.
